Summary and Highlights of the Implementation of the First Phase

This academic year’s plan demonstrates the school’s more flexible teaching model to form a novel campus culture and atmosphere which fosters innovative teaching; this has been done in accordance with the revision of relevant laws and regulations. The school has established a teacher’s continuing education institute to analyze teacher teaching content, thereby enhancing teachers’ teaching quality and enhancing teachers’ professional practice. The teaching goals of each department are to foster the development of students’ scientific, technological, innovative and social caring abilities from the perspective of industry trends. In addition to the school's quality assurance mechanism, a questionnaire survey of internal and external stakeholders, including employment rate, employer satisfaction, etc., is carried out to receive feedback and continue to improve the school's administrative affairs and teaching system.

Highlight 1. The promotion of the effectiveness of teachers’ innovative teaching: In order to systematically carry out the curriculum innovation of "teaching and learning" quality assurance measures for assisting teachers, the school set up a teacher continuing education institute in 2018, and by the year 2019, there were 103 courses using innovative teaching methods being taught, with about 20% of teachers having implemented the teaching innovation. The results include 56 teacher-implemented textbooks, 58 digital textbooks, two units of multimedia online textbooks, and 37 performances inside and outside the school. Moreover, since the 2018-2019 academic year, flexible salary implementation measures have been put into effect and revised, and 25 excellent teachers have been awarded so far. At the same time, in order to ensure the quality of teaching and promote internationalization, all departments of the school have participated in IEET certification; furthermore, our school is the only school in the country with all departments of a school having participated in IEET certification since the establishment of IEET in the 2003-2004 academic year.

Highlight 2: Curriculum innovation in response to social needs: Micro-credit courses, deep bowl courses, PBL courses, flipped teaching, cross-domain experience courses, cross-domain practical topics, and community learning courses have been opened, beginning in the 2018-2019 academic year. Achievements include 10 key license or certification courses, a total of 209 high-quality licenses or certificates for industry-university training classes, 3,492 professional licenses or certificates for students, from a field of 42 entrants for the 2018 and 2019 “Golden Point Rookie Design Awards,” in the 2018 “the Second Great China Smart Home Appliance Design Competition,” with participants from our school being conferred 13 awards in this nationwide contest. In addition, students have been assisted in applying for patents for commercialization of their works, with a total of eight design patents, 11 new model patents and four invention patents having been obtained. One of our students has participated in the IIIC International Innovation and Invention Competition and won the gold medal.

Highlight 3. Value-added professional qualities together with well-grounded and rooted practice: The school implements compulsory professional practice internship courses (usually off-campus)to enable students to gain workplace experience. The total number of internships in the 2018-2019 academic year reached 1,386 (including 32 overseas internships); currently 1,290 companies or organizational entities cooperate with our school to provide internship positions. In addition, in order to allow students to simulate the entrepreneurial process, the school has established "The RATA Student Internship Restaurant," "The HATA Intern Hotel," "The Vehicle Practice Operation Center" and "The Design Practice Base"; through these, students participate in course practice and simulation exercises, competitions, and the commercialization of student-designed products, and thus, students receive practice in the operations of four entrepreneurial fields or areas. The Ministry of Education conducted the “Performance Evaluation of the Implementation of Internship Courses” for the first time in 2018. In the first phase of 40 schools, only eight schools “passed” the evaluation, and our school was the “only” university of technology that passed in the northern area of Taiwan. The school has achieved fruitful results in promoting internationalization, as overseas competitions, overseas internships, international seminars and cross-strait academic exchanges totaled 348 people in the 2017-2018 academic year and 445 persons in the 2018-2019 academic year.

Highlight 4: Deeply fostering the development of the place and putting into practice the university's social responsibility: The school has been deeply involved in the greater Wenshan area for a long time. Through social participation courses, service learning and professional integration service learning courses, combined with local resources, students can deepen and jointly promote local culture and industry. The General Education Center of the university has been promoting courses and activities for senior citizens for a long time, and this undertaking has been greatly and positively affirmed. In addition, the school has received subsidies for “The University Social Responsibility (USR) Practice Program,” totaling 6.4 million NT dollars from the Ministry of Education for three consecutive years for the following: “The Shenkeng Business District Tourism, Dining, and Leisure Features Promotion Program" and "The Opening Shenkeng's Horizons: Food and Agricultural Aesthetics--The Local Practice." These programs have strengthened the link between the school and the local area, thus becoming a good example of giving back to the local community.
